The Centre de la Protection Internationale, an affiliate of the International Commission of Jurists, was established in Strasbourg, the seat of the European Court of Human Rights, in 2006 on the initiative of Karinna Moskalenko, a leading Russian human rights lawyer with a mission to advance human rights protection in Russia. The project works to reform the practice of the criminal justice system in Russia with regard to human rights defenders, civil society activists, lawyers, and journalists who fall victim to abuses. Through a collective of leading Russian human rights lawyers, it conducts litigation and provides legal support and training in relevant law and legal practice.
