The intended outcome is national and local reporting that fosters greater accountability and public understanding about crucial issues.

2022 (2 years)
$400,000

Capital B is a new, national nonprofit news organization whose original enterprise and investigative reporting is aimed at serving a national Black audience. It seeks to provide coverage of the issues that matter most to Black Americans, from the perspective and experience of Black reporters and editors. Capital B, created by Black women journalists, responds to the interconnected problems of inadequate and inaccurate coverage of the Black community and their interests, the lack of trust in the news media by Black audiences, and the growing spread of mis- and disinformation in Black communities. This grant provides general operating support for the organization, including staff salaries and operational expenses. The intended outcome is a strong and stable newsroom that provides more accurate, just, and inclusive news and narratives about and for Black and general audiences.
