Canary Media

The award provides general operating support to Canary Media. An independent, nonprofit newsroom covering the transition to clean energy and solutions to the climate crisis, Canary Media launched in 2021 under the umbrella of clean energy think tank Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) and obtained charitable status in 2022. In July 2024, Canary Media spun out of RMI to become a standalone organization. Canary Media’s organizational goals are to inform decision-makers and help them advance the energy transition, spur major newspapers and other media outlets to cover clean energy better and more often, and inspire and empower individuals to embrace the energy transition. The award provides one year of general operating support.
