Canadian Physicians for Aid and Relief (CPAR) was founded in 1984 in response to the famine in Ethiopia. This project will establish model Farmer Field Schools in eleven communities neighboring the course of the Rubana River, which flows into the Bunda Wetlands, to promote sound land-stewardship and raise awareness of sound environmental practices with regard to agriculture and livestock rearing to limit run-off and siltation as well as undertaking a campaign of environmental restoration of degraded land and riverbanks. Further pressures will be reduced through promoting fuel-efficient stoves and bio gas generators.
