Diaspora Rising

Business Capacity Development Alliance (BCDA) is an international consortium of Black-owned organizations dedicated to the creation and development of the Black community. Its project, Diaspora Rising, is led by Opal Tometi, co-founder of Black Lives Matter (BLM). The Diaspora Rising project is a transnational initiative that emerged in 2020 as the next iteration of the BLM movement that includes the Global Black Diaspora. With a presence in the United States, Nigeria, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and rapidly expanding, Diaspora Rising engages policymakers, think tanks, institutions, cultural outfits, grassroots, and civil society organizations around four pillars - Amplify, Educate, Advocate and Connect. It amplifies issues of concern to the Global Black Diaspora; educates the world about Africa and its Diaspora; develops advocacy agendas that improve the well-being of Black people; and connects the Global Black Diaspora to build bridges and strengthen bonds. This award supports the Diaspora Rising project to use its robust media platform, digital and advocacy tools, and its diverse and expansive audience to elevate the issue of reparations and racial healing for the Global Black Diaspora.
