BudgIT Foundation is a Nigerian nonprofit that was founded in 2011. It uses technology to improve transparency in budgets and public spending and to galvanize participation and accountability. With the previous award, BudgIT strengthened transparency, participation, and accountability by fostering civic culture and collective action among young people toward efficient service delivery and institutional accountability in Nigeria’s southwestern and southeastern regions. This tie-off award to BudgIT promotes development through knowledge creation and capacity assistance for professionals. BudgIT provides tailored training and capacity support to improve the organizational and programmatic effectiveness and resilience of civil society organizations, including On Nigeria grantees. BudgIT produces a training curriculum, organizes training workshops and solution labs for core program and support staff, and provides mentoring and coaching services to bolster organizational resilience and sustainability beyond the term of the On Nigeria program. BudgIT coordinates the implementation of this award with Thoughts and Mace Advisory Limited. The award is expected to contribute to On Nigeria’s goal of reducing corruption and strengthening accountability, transparency, and participation by enhancing the resilience and sustainability of grantees and enabling them to continue to provide leadership in the accountability and anti-corruption ecosystem.

With this award, BudgIT coordinates co-members of the Joinbodi cohort to review and disseminate the cohort's achievements and lessons learned. The cohort publicizes its efforts toward transforming the Nigerian space and fighting corruption and thus stimulates interest in civil society and enhances voice for sustained access to services for the poor.

It is training and mobilizing young people for active involvement in constituency project tracking, whistleblowing, and advocacy. BudgIT is collaborating with the media, community associations, youth-led social accountability start-ups, and social influencers that use multimedia platforms to inform and catalyze social change. It is coordinating with oversight bodies and integrity institutions, including the Federal Ministry of Budget and Finance, Office of the Auditor General of the Federation, Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, and the National Assembly to improve responses to whistleblowing and constituency tracking reports. The award is expected to contribute to On Nigeria’s goal of reducing corruption and strengthening accountability, transparency, and participation.
Established in 2011, BudgIT is a Nigerian nonprofit promoting transparency and accountability in budget and public resources through infographics, data analysis, and presentations. BudgIT uses this award to provide data analysis and visualization of education budget allocations and expenditures to educate, empower, and mobilize community members to engage education officials and agencies and demand accountability. BudgIT is analyzing and producing detailed breakdowns and infographics of education budget allocations and spending, project types, and their locations. It is working with media to disseminate the analyses and convene community meetings with education officials to increase accountability. BudgIT is training and supporting community associations and influencers to track education projects. Finally, BudgIT is providing technical assistance to the federal and state governments to increase budget transparency and bolster collaboration with communities.
This renewal is part of a larger package of complementary awards that is expected to increase transparency in education finances in select states, strengthen local accountability practices, and contribute to a reduction in corruption.
Established in 2011, BudgIT Foundation is a civic organization that uses technology to intersect citizen engagement with institutional improvement to facilitate societal change. The award is to strengthen accountability in Nigeria. It supports the participation of at least 50 experts and practitioners from Nigeria and elsewhere to examine new media tools as opportunity to demand accountability and advocate for security and socio-economic development towards the forthcoming 2019 elections.
The BudgIT-led conference explores innovative avenues to leverage new media tools towards a progressive democratic society and an electoral system devoid of corrupt practices. The expected outcome is an improved understanding of how new media can be used to advance governance and accountability.
