Established in 2007, Bright Star Community Outreach was initially a faith-based, clergy-led effort to address violence among youth and to improve schools through monthly prayer vigils. Today, Bright Star Community Outreach utilizes evidenced-based practices to address community needs in the areas of violence prevention; community engagement; economic development; education; and healthy children, youth, and families. This award for general operating support enables Bright Star Community Outreach to continue its work as a community anchor organization focused on collective impact in the greater Bronzeville community.

This funding enables Bright Star Community Outreach to: 1) train its financial officers and other staff members on new financial management software and 2) engage Fiscal Management Associates (FMA) to provide related professional development for the staff and board.
