Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy (AAPIP) is one of a handful of identity-based affinity groups in the U.S. philanthropic community that works to promote diversity of staff and boards at foundations and corporate giving programs, and equity and accountability in the distribution of philanthropic resources. From time to time, these groups organize themselves under the "Joint Affinity Groups" umbrella for meetings and projects. This June marks the 20th anniversary of the formation of the Joint Affinity Groups. To both celebrate and develop a more strategic and coordinated course for collaboration in the future -- on issues ranging from income inequality to bias in the criminal justice system -- the Joint Affinity Groups, under the leadership of AAPIP, will convene a Unity Summit in June 2014.
