Launched in 2016, the Alliance for Safety and Justice (ASJ) is a multi-state organization that partners with state leaders and advocates to achieve criminal justice reform through policy advocacy, grassroots organizing, coalition building, and communications. This award enables ASJ to center its core constituencies—crime survivors and justice-impacted individuals—in support of public safety solutions to jail misuse and racial disparities as part of the Safety and Justice Challenge. As a strategic ally in the Challenge, ASJ elevates the voices, experiences, and leadership of crime survivors and justice-impacted people in promoting new safety solutions, including public health approaches to crime that will reduce disparities and incarceration.
Launched in 2016, the Alliance for Safety and Justice (ASJ) is a multi-state organization that partners with state leaders and advocates to achieve criminal justice reform through policy advocacy, grassroots organizing, coalition building, and communications. This award enables ASJ to mobilize its core constituencies—people with past criminal convictions and crime survivors, both groups being primarily people of color from low-income communities—in support of front-end criminal justice reform as part of the Safety and Justice Challenge. As a strategic ally in the Challenge, ASJ elevates the voices, experiences, and leadership of crime survivors and people with convictions in promoting new safety solutions, including public health approaches to crime that will reduce disparities and incarceration.
