Alliance for Justice (AFJ), founded in 1979 and based in Washington D.C., is a national association of 140 organizations representing a broad array of civil rights, environmental, immigration, disability, consumer, workers', women’s, LGBTQ, and other groups committed to democratic values and the creation of an equitable, just, and free society. AFJ has two distinct but complementary programs. The Justice Program focuses on ensuring that the federal judiciary advances core constitutional values, preserves human rights and unfettered access to the courts, and adheres to the even-handed administration of justice for all. The Bolder Advocacy Program works with nonprofits and foundations to help navigate the rules surrounding 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4) and PAC rules so they can be more courageous in their advocacy. This grant supports the general operations of the Alliance for Justice.

2019 (3 years 1 month)
$200,000

For over 30 years, Alliance for Justice has helped nonprofit organizations and the foundations that support them understand how to advocate effectively and legally for social and policy change through the Bolder Advocacy program. Bolder Advocacy, established in 2012, helps tax-exempt organizations ensure they comply with regulations and restrictions on lobbying when participating in public debates about state and federal laws and policies. By fully understanding lobbying rules, nonprofit organizations can become more assertive in their pursuit of policy goals, and the communities they serve can have more effective representation in the local, state, and national policy decisions that affect their lives. This grant supports training programs, which include workshops, webinars, on-demand technical assistance, and publications.
