A Kind of Order is the story of three “lifers”—men who have lived or worked in prison their entire adult lives—on the cusp of potentially radical change. Challenged by a Supreme Court desegregation order and a novel anti-violence program, three men in one prison over five years confront a deeply entrenched, racially divided culture, revealing the institutional nature of racial hierarchies, as well as the hope and hidden risks of transformative change. The film follows their struggle to move beyond old school politics at a moment of institutional upheaval, and to break from the stark reality of America’s “locked down” racial order.
