As Director of the Local News Program, Silvia is responsible for the leadership and implementation of MacArthur's Local News portfolio and serves as a core partner of Press Forward.
She joined the Foundation after three years as Senior Business Strategist at the Listening Post Collective (LPC), the U.S. portfolio of the international media development organization, Internews. In this role, she developed the strategic framework for LPC's civic media design process. Previously, she was Managing Director of Vocalo Radio at Chicago Public Media, where she created the blueprint for the urban alternative format for public radio. She began her career as a youth journalism apprentice at Radio Arte, a Latin@ serving community radio station, and eventually rose to the position of General Manager.
Silvia received her Bachelor of Arts in Media Management at Columbia College Chicago.
She serves on the cultural advisory council for the City of Chicago and on the programming committee of Latinos Progresando's Mex Talks.
