Chris Cardona

Chris leads a team that drives the identification of MacArthur’s new areas of grantmaking, surfacing practices, programs, and strategies that advance organizational goals and bring about transformative change. He serves on the Leadership Advisory Team that advises the President on strategic and policy matters.

Prior to joining the Foundation, Chris was a Senior Program Officer at the Ford Foundation, where he programmed the Philanthropy portfolio and served on the BUILD team, helping to launch that 12-year, $2 billion effort to strengthen the organizational capacity of more than 300 nongovernmental organizations worldwide dedicated to addressing inequality in all its forms. Previously, he led the Philanthropy practice at the consulting firm TCC Group and was a program director at Hispanics in Philanthropy.

Chris earned a PhD and master’s in political science at UC Berkeley and a bachelor’s in political science at Williams College.

Chris serves on the boards of Red Hook Initiative and Nonprofit Quarterly, and previously chaired the board of the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation in Arkansas. He designed and taught a new elective on diversity, equity, and inclusion in nonprofits and philanthropy in Columbia University’s Nonprofit Management program.
