Affordable housing is a growing challenge for many people and communities in Illinois—increasing housing instability and displacement. Grantee DePaul Institute for Housing Studies was part of a task force that evaluated how community land trusts can contribute to meeting affordable housing needs. A community land trust is a nonprofit that retains ownership of land beneath a home, which keeps costs lower for the homeowner. The task force found some strategies to support community land trusts that could make them more feasible to establish and maintain.
